BILL AND NANCY MONCRIEF

Bill is a fourth generation native of Ocean City, NJ, in Cape May County. After graduating from Trenton State College, Bill enlisted in the US Navy where he became a naval aviator, flying P-3s in submarine surveillance.

While in the Navy, Bill obtained a Master’s degree in Computer Science at the Naval Postgraduate School.

After twenty years in the Navy, Bill retired to work in the computer technology field. Since retiring from the Navy in 1987, Bill has worked for a federal commission, Georgetown University (where he and Nancy met), a law firm, and the Center for Science in the Public Interest-better known as the "food police." As Bill states, "CSPI" recipes are not being followed in the Inn. We will continue to prepare and serve the gourmet breakfasts that have been a tradition of the Candlelight Inn."

In addition to running the Candlelight Inn, Bill currently serves as President of Select Registry - Distinguished Inn of North America.

Nancy is a native of Staten Island, NY. She is a graduate of Wagner College where she found her love for college administration. She also has graduate degrees from Hofstra University on Long Island and Pace University in downtown Manhattan. She worked as a college administrator for more than twenty years focusing on admissions, student services, and academic counseling. In the quiet season she continues her work in higher education with the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. She enjoys talking with guests about the MBA admissions process.

Nancy left a twelve year career with the MBA Program at Georgetown University where she was the Assistant Dean for Graduate Business Programs.

Currently, she is active in the B&B industry beyond the Candlelight.  She serves on the Board of the Preferred Inns of New Jersey - the NJ State B&B Association.

Shelby, Donovan, and Nike

Shelby and Donovan are Brittany Spaniels and Nike is an Australian Kelpie who reside with Nancy and Bill. Shelby and Donovan are both rescues from American Brittany Rescue.

Shelby is orange in color and is about 15; Donovan is about 13 and is the darker color; and Nike is jet black and also about 14. They are all very gentle and friendly members of the family. While they love to say hello to guests, their greetings are normally restricted to their yard. Shelby, Nike, and Donovan are not allowed in the public or guest areas of the Inn so that guests with allergies or concerns about animals do not have to worry. But, if you are missing your furry friend that you left at home, they are always happy for additional trips outside to soak up extra pats and love from guests. But, be careful, if your car door is open and they are nearby you may pick up an extra rider.
